Taal Volcano

The Taal Volcano is located about 60km south of Manila, the capital city of The Philippines. The volcano is comprised of a large crater with a lake inside. In the center of the lake there is a volcanic island, which has a smaller lake inside it (a lake within a lake). Since 1572 there were 33 documented eruptions of the Taal volcano, most of them in the island in the lake. One of those eruptions, the eruption of 1911 was responsible for the creation of the volcanic island. This eruption resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives.

Once every several years there are volcanic activities in the volcano, and a team of researchers are always on stand by in the area to warn against a possible volcanic eruption.

It is possible to view the large lake from the ridge above it, or you can take a motor boat to the volcanic island, to visit the island and the lake in its center.
